THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Kozhikode in the state of Kerala will soon boast of the largest mosque in the country leaving Delhi’s Jama Masjid far behind. The mosque when completed will have the capacity of holding 25,000 to 30,000 devotees who can pray at the same time. The total estimated cost for the mosque is pegged at Rs 40 crore with the entire structure of the mosque measuring 2.5 lakh square feet. The mosque has been planned by Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musliyar, world Islamic Scholar and the head of the Muslim Organization Markazu-Ssaquafathi-Ssunniyyah.
"The mosque is planned on a 12 acre plot. Eight acres will be set apart for landscaping and host a Mughal-style garden. The main structure will be confined to 4 acres. Markaz Knowledge City will come up on 600 acres of land and will also have an engineering college, medical college and township. It will be based on Islamic traditions,” said, Riyaz Mohammad, Architect, Share Mubarak Grand Masjid.
